Whether it’s installed from a website or downloaded from an app store, the app is the software the user installs on their mobile device and is sometimes referred to as the ‘frontend’ or ‘client’. It’s where the interaction takes place, displaying information, products, calculations or any manner of data. Sometimes all the data will be ‘hard-coded’ in the app, other times the app pulls it from a remote server, otherwise known as the ‘backend’. A remote backend costs more to implement but adds a range of functionality and control and can save costs in the future if changes are needed in the app.

The backend of an app is the remote system the app talks to to upload or download data. These systems are frequently based on the big three cloud platforms, Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud. Having a backend to your app allows you to make changes to content; for example including the latest products and pricing or changing the way a result is calculated. A backend also allows you to store inputted data to allow sharing across devices or data analysis. We have the technical expertise to build both the frontend app and backend services to support any requirement.
